Any Season Design

Answers to the questions we hear most from North Shore homeowners at every stage of a remodeling or design-build project — from budgeting and permitting to what it’s like to live in your home during construction.

Cost & Budgeting

How much does a kitchen remodel cost on the North Shore?
Costs vary widely based on scope, finishes, and whether structural or layout changes are involved. A cosmetic refresh might run in the low tens of thousands, while a full gut renovation with custom cabinetry and layout changes is typically a larger investment. We provide a detailed estimate after an initial walkthrough of your specific project.

What’s included in a design-build estimate?
Our estimates cover design, permitting, materials, labor, and project management under one number, so you’re not getting separate bids from an architect and a contractor that need to be reconciled later.

Do you offer financing?
We can point you toward financing options and help you sequence a project around your budget, though financing itself is arranged through your lender of choice.

Design-Build vs. General Contracting

What’s the difference between design-build and hiring a general contractor?
With a general contractor, you typically hire a separate architect or designer first, then bring completed plans to a contractor for pricing and construction — two relationships, two contracts, and a risk of miscommunication between them. Design-build combines design and construction under one team and one contract, so the people designing your project are the same people building it.

Do I need an architect if I work with a design-build firm?
No — design-build firms like ours handle design in-house, including architectural drawings for most residential projects. Very large or complex projects may still involve an outside architect, but that’s coordinated within our process rather than something you manage separately.

Permitting & Timeline

Do I need a permit for my remodel?
Most projects involving structural, electrical, or plumbing changes require a permit. Purely cosmetic work (paint, flooring, fixtures) often doesn’t. We handle the permitting process as part of every project so you don’t have to navigate town hall yourself.

How long does a typical remodel take?
A kitchen or bathroom remodel typically runs 8–16 weeks from demo to final walkthrough. Additions and whole-home renovations run longer, often 4–9 months, depending on scope and permitting complexity. We give you a project-specific timeline before work begins.

How far in advance should I book a project?
We recommend reaching out 2–3 months before you’d like to start, especially for larger projects that need design and permitting time before construction begins

Living Through a Remodel

Can I stay in my home during a remodel?
For most kitchen, bathroom, and addition projects, yes. Whole-home renovations sometimes require temporary relocation depending on scope. We’ll talk through what to expect for your specific project during planning.

How do you handle dust, noise, and daily disruption?
We use dust containment barriers, floor protection, and a clear daily schedule so you know what to expect. Communication throughout the project — not just at the start — is part of how we manage disruption.
